24 Hour Comics Day

Back in 1990, the amazing Scott McCloud came up with a challenge to do 24 comics in 24 hours. Today this challenge is taken up by a lot of people every year in 24 Hour Comics Day. It takes place tomorrow – the first of October – and it’s a fun and exhausting event. I totally recommend it to anyone who has the weekend free.

Will you be participating? If so, you should get ready. And everyone should feel free to plug their own 24 hour comics in the comments area!

  1. This was my first attempt at 24 hour comic day, and it was brutal, fun, and useful! I made a 21 page companion story to my webcomic, LeyLines which I’ll be able to include as an extra in Volume 1! I was amazed at how much I could get done by sitting down and doing non-stop WORK. Exhausting, but surprisingly effective. Plus I got to get to know the owners of an awesome comic store AND other local creators! Granted, we were all gibbering crazy people by the end, but at least we went insane over a common cause. :)

I think I’m going to make this a regular annual event for me!

The first and last time I did a 24hr comic resulted in Strike The Earth. I had so many energy drinks that I’m surprised I made it home at all–I imagine that how I felt be the end of it was like how a humming bird feels all of the time. :(

I did four 24 hour comics back in 2008, during my last quarter of college! I was doing an independent study, it was an intense quarter. ^_^;; When my old webcomic concluded, I decided to continue one of them, Alex’s Guide to a Life Well Lived, into my new regular webcomic, and I’ve been updating that one for about a year and a half now.

I have to go to a wedding today, otherwise I’d be joining in myself! Next year, Gadget. Next year.
